Here is run down of how our intro to pottery trial session goes, what to expect and what you can prepare before the session

Before the session

Decide what you want to make—handbuilding or wheel throwing.
Handbuilding: Coiling method; expect textured, organic pieces. Be creative—no electricity involved!
Wheel throwing: Uses the electric wheel. Circular bases only (cups, bowls, plates). Taller/wider pieces can be tricky, but we’ll guide you.

Be decisive about what you make and don’t overwork the clay.
Handle the clay gently—it responds best to care.
Pay attention to instructions. Some steps may seem small, but they’re there for a reason (like spotting air pockets or preventing collapse).
Slow down if needed. If your piece starts to wobble or collapse, call us—we’ve got you. Clay can be recycled, so mistakes are totally normal.
Communicate your ideas. If you’re unsure, tell us! Explaining what you want helps us teach the best way and makes the process smoother.

Tell us clearly how you want your piece glazed, we’ll do our best to match your vision, but firing can change the final look.
You have until 11:59pm on the day of your session to request any colour changes or suggest combinations.
Remember: how the clay and glaze are handled affects the outcome. Pieces may shrink, and glazes can separate, split, or transfer.
Finished pieces shrink slightly after firing, so they may look smaller than during class.
Firing takes time: typically 6–8 weeks, longer during peak periods (up to 3 months). Pieces are collected in batches, so those submitted later may take extra time.
